Find of the Day: Rare 1989 911 Clubsport in Belgium

When it comes to vintage air-cooled 911s, there are few more revered by purists than normally aspirated limited edition lightweights. Case in point is the G-type 911 Carrera 3.2 Clubsport of which only 340 examples were ever built.

If ever there were a spiritual successor to the 964-generation RS America, we suspect this factory special may be it. Every bit as much of a sleeper as the RS America, the Clubsport features a narrow Carrera 3.2 body, ubiquitous Fuchs alloys and solely a whale tail to really give most passers by the hint that it’s something special.

Yes, there are a few telltale decals on the bodywork, but that’s precious little to reveal the special nature of this coupe.

This particular car is currently in Belgium, at premium vintage car dealer Car Cave. It’s listed as concours condition and finished in silver metallic with grey cloth Porsche script sport interior including an original 959 driver’s seat. The blueprinted 3.2 engine sports 231 hp and the car also got a unique suspension.

Delivered originally to Germany, this specimen has a full original service book and has logged just 137,000 km on the clock, with full ownership history. Options include:

  • C00 Germany
  • 018 steering wheel with elevated hub
  • 167 Bridgestone tires
  • 220 locking diff 40%
  • 243 shorter shifter for G50 gearbox
  • 377-378 combinated sport seats
  • 451 reduced radio prep
  • 473 front and rear spoiler
  • 474 sports shock absorbers
  • 637 club sport

The Carrera 3.2 Clubsport weighed in about 50 kg lighter than the standard Carrera 3.2. It followed Porsche’s less-is-more philosophy, foregoing popular period amenities such as radio, central locking, fog lights, heated or power seats, air conditioning, sunroof, back seats, sound proofing, or even a passenger sun visor. It also came with unique lightweight door panels that featured pockets but skipped elements like map pocket lids.

With just 340 cars built between 1987-1989, the Carrera 3.2 Clubsport is rarer even than the iconic and highly collectible 911 Carrera RS 2.7.
